IRVING, TEXAS (October 24, 2006) – Ron Brooks of Irving has been named a 2007 U.S. Army All-American. He is the seventh athlete from the state of Texas to be selected to the WEST Squad. Brooks joins a group of extraordinary student-athletes selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
This classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 12:00 Noon (CST) and will feature the nation’s top 80 high school football athletes.
“
Ron Brooks
is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the entire nation,” said Garrett Shea, Director of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. “He’s got the speed, quickness and burst to really be a standout at the next level. He explodes off the ball, runs very crisp routes, then goes up with his great hands to snatch the ball out of the air. In addition, once he gets in the open field he is very difficult to bring down. Ron Brooks is a terrific all-around athlete and the Bowl is proud to have him as a member of the U.S. Army All-American class of 2007.”
Brooks is rated as the number seven wide receiver in the country according to Scout.com and one of the nation's top 100 prospect. Brooks had 43 catches for 778 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior en route to a first team all-district selection. Brooks was the backup quarterback last season.
"Brooks is tough to cover and has excellent hands," said Jeremy Patterson, Southeast recruiting analyst for Scout.com "He gets open quickly and can make things happen with the reception. Very elusive and dangerous when he's into the opponent's secondary."
As a U.S. Army All-American, Ron Brooks will have the opportunity during Bowl week to participate in a series of Army leadership and teamwork sessions, NFL athlete seminars, study hall sessions, and goal setting and achieving workshops.
